Wickerman Festival 2014

This was my first experience as a Freelance Photographer at a Music Festival and I guess I chose the best. On Thursday 24th July 2014 . I arrived just after 2pm on a very hot  day Although i am not complaining about the weather it was fantastic to hot n sticky pitching a tent in a field .

As I drove into the main gate lots of people in Green hi vis jackets and Hats I was met by staff at the gates I hadn’t a clue what to expect or where I was going. They were helpful and stuck a big Blue Wickerman sticker to my front Windscreen . it was noticeable that Police Scotland have certainly clamped down on the drugs and alcohol as there were routine searches in abundance with Drug Dogs awaiting. (DO YOU HAVE BOTTLES I WAS ASKED — EH NAW!!)

I would only say i would have been more aware about where to go and the layout of the site as hadn’t a clue where to pitch my tent the security and staff guiding me hadn’t either so that helped. i guess if I had someone with me who had been but I knew some fellow Photographer friends and Musicians were attending and I was going to be in good company. I love meeting up with new people and collaborating with other photographers and musicians.

On arriving at the Blue Car park my only criticism is that PRESS / PHOTOGRAPHERS have to set up a tent outside the main areas that are mostly confined to others running the festival VIPs.   I can understand that but i am there to help promote the festival and felt a little left out at times although I did fast track to get my little sticker and wristband with Press on the label.

I never got a lanyard although all the organisers had one and Music and Entrainment Artists us measly Photographer got a sticker and a shower you had to stand in a mile long queue for ages My fellow Photographer friends all agreed . I then decided to buy myself a lanyard and guide at £5.00 and a wee T shirt of my first visit to the festival . I think next time i will make sure i have one with me as i have a few however I would make a suggestion no the Organisers who were very nice hosts as they looked after us really well and cannot fault them and they did leave out crisps , nuts fruit and water for us so its not all bad and they were a joy to work with . I would suggest a T SHIRT one that stands out and you can identify a press / Photographers also a lanyard as standard ` i would be happy to pay for this so it would be a problem.

I met with some of the security who were drafted in from Northern Ireland some were happy some not , some were nice some were not.  GET OFF MA LAND  YOUR NOT ALLOWED IN HERE !! OH!! YER PRESS  AH!! YER STILL NOT GETTING IN THERE!! !! absolutely murder . So I guess the next one I will be booking into a local Bed and Breakfast.

I met up with a fellow Photographer friend Cameron Pollock you can find his work on his website is www.fb.com/1021photography

I got settled in my wee Tent in the Orange section of the Standard Camping site this looked onto the Fairground part of the Festival. I think a learning curve for me is to go to the family section as It was very loud into at least 3am .

So myself and Cameron ventured out into the Site when then ALLOWED us in !!

Here are some snaps of happy Festival goers we found

Friday arrives and having very little sleep I woke up around 5 am and the sun was splitting the sky’s I had access to the Down N Dirty showers so that was certainly a luxury .

I never managed to get around all the tents to photograph everything I guess its about planning and knowing the bands and artists that are playing at the different venues within the festival.

For me the best bit was watching and Photographing the People who were around in the festival . The band that stood out the most for me and I am definitely buying there music is Alabama 3 . I also love the Feeling so to be able to photographs all these great bands is just a joy.

I also videod what I could for my Video blog so look out for that coming soon you can always watch my previous Vlog in which i pitch my tent.

So the Next day Saturday comes and it starts well weather wise but soon gets wet and colder . This doesnt stop anyone from having a great time at the Festival. I met some wonderful people and made some new friends and networked where i could. I am getting ready for the Next festival and can’t wait until Next Year.

Pre Wedding meeting with Johnathan and Fiona and their children

I was invited to Johnathan’s home to meet his future wife ,Fiona I also met his 2 lovely daughters.  It was a first meet up and for me to introduce myself and to discuss their wedding that is planned on Saturday 5th of July 2014 . Which will take place in Morpeth register office then onto a beautiful church for its blessing . A location called Bothel ,this is where the church is located .

Fiona had to go to work . Which was fine so myself and Johnathan and his daughters headed to the location for the wedding this was just an opportunity to look at the location and to get a feel for the area and what photographs we could capture for them. I took the opportunity to take some photos of their 2 girls and Johnathan at that location and while sitting with them.
